Turn Trash Into Treasure!
Restoration and Refinishing

Refinishing something that is tired and old and restoring it to its original beauty can bring great pleasure. Turning junk into treasure is part hard work, and part vision; you are not unlike an artist working on a canvas. Your creation may be displayed with pride, simply for your own pleasure, or perhaps done with the idea of handing it down to your children or grandchildren. Whatever your motivation, there is fun and profit to be had from the process of restoration and refinishing.

Maybe you are decorating your own house or apartment on a budget. Rather than buying new and blowing out your bank account, you can purchase used and make them new again with your special touch. Some people even make a living restoring older houses. Whatever the reason, and whether you are refinishing furniture, restoring houses, or just having fun, you are an artist.

Some people love searching for hidden treasures at garage sales, yard sales, flea markets and thrift shops. Often, you'll find items that don't look like much, but can be given new life with restoration and refinishing! Whether it's your hobby or your livelihood, it's always fun and you can never be sure of the end result until you get there.

Here at RefinishingResource you'll find articles on all aspects of refinishing and restoration, and we are adding new content all the time, so bookmark us and come back often. Among other things, we'll have articles on bathroom fixture refinishing, kitchen refinishing, and furniture refinishing and restoration, to name just a few of our categories.

We'll also be inviting some guest articles on more esoteric topics, such as restoration of a variety of household, sporting, and hobby items such as guns, golf clubs, patio furniture, and even shuffleboards! If it has anything to do with how to refinish or restore a common item, you'll probably find it here sooner or later.

For example, on a recent thrift store jaunt, we found an old, beaten up steamer trunk, and some wonderful wooden boxes. They looked terrible, but we could see they had promise. After some cleaning and TLC, the steamer trunk became a coffee table, and the restored wooden boxes made terrific outdoor planters.

Now when guests come by, they all comment on the beautiful planters we have, and how unique our living room decor is, with the restored steamer trunk the proud centerpiece. Some don't even know that they are the result of our hobby of restoration and refinishing!
